UPDATE: (OCT. 13)

Non-perishable food drive to help local needy during the Nov. 27-30
Las Vegas Bracket Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

A non-perishable food drive will be held during the Nov. 27-30 Las Vegas Bracket Nationals during the Thanksgiving Weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Racers and fans are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items during the event.  Donations will be accepted at the announcers' booth in the officials' tower at the drag strip each day.

The food items will be boxed and delivered to local causes that aid the homeless and less-fortunate citizens of the Las Vegas area.

Past non-perishable food drives during the Thanksgiving Weekend drag-fest have produced truck loads of food and hundreds of dollars in cash donations which were distributed to local programs and food pantries.

UPDATE (OCT. 10):

Nov. 26 Super Quick Shootout and Geezer Gambler to be run at 1,000 ft.
at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

The Super Quick Shootout and Geezer Gambler events to be held on Wednesday, Nov. 26, during the Turkey Thaw Thrill Show at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be contested at a 1,000-ft. distance.  The Super Quick Shootout and Geezer Gambler will kick-off the eighth annual Las Vegas Bracket Nationals.

"The hot topic this season is thousand-foot drag racing, so we thought we would give it a shot during the Bracket Nationals bonus races," said Chris Blair, LVMS's vice president of racing operations.  "The 1,000-ft. distance events are only for the Wednesday-night races and will not affect the designated distances of our other races."

The Geezer Gambler event is open to racers 55 years of age and older.  The entry fee is $40 and the winner will receive a cash purse, trophy and LVMS jacket. The class will be run under the same parameters as the Super Pro category.

The Super Quick Shootout will feature two rounds of qualifying with the quickest 32 cars placed on a pro ladder for eliminations.  The entry fee is $100 with 100% payback. The event winner will receive 50% of purse, runner-up receives 25% of total purse and semi-finalists receive 12.5%.

"This should make for a great evening of racing and a fun way to kick off the biggest bracket-racing event in the Western United States," Blair explained.
In addition to the Geezer Gambler and Super Quick Shootout, the Turkey Thaw Thrill Show will feature Jet Cars, a motorcycle stunt team, Monster Truck car crush, pit-area holiday light decorating contest and fireworks show.

For more information, please contact the racing operations department of Las Vegas Motor Speedway at (702) 632-8213 or visit www.LVMS.com.

PREVIOUS POSTING:

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will present its annual Thanksgiving Weekend high-stakes bracket race Nov. 26-30. The Las Vegas Bracket Nationals will feature a complete show with winners each day in the Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle classes from Thursday through Sunday of the Thanksgiving holiday. The Super Pro class will race for $7,500 to win on Saturday and Sunday.
The thrilling and extremely popular Ultimate Gambler returns on Sunday morning with its $1,000 entry fee and winner-take-all purse. In the past, purses for the 1/8-mile shootout have paid as much as $67,000 to the final-round winner.

The holiday drag racing extravaganza begins one day earlier this year - on Wednesday, with the Turkey Thaw Thrill Show - featuring Jet Cars, fireworks, Monster Trucks, a Super Quick Shootout and the senior citizens' "Geezer Gambler."

Another holiday tradition that draws heavy participation is the Christmas decoration contest, where race teams "deck the halls" with lights, motorized figures - and even a snow-making machine or two.
